I’m so sorry to hear about your friend having DHS called on her. Parents are truly being pushed into being helicopter parents. I hope we can make our world a bit better for kids, in that they can start to have autonomy.
Best wishes with introducing video games. I believe with the right structures in place our children will be able to navigate this technology drenched world.

That is a great idea Deb. Did you have a specific amount of time he needed to be outside?

He had to go outside and play for a while, then he could play some video games. There was also a cut off time for video games at night.

First, your cart story of the old lady paying in pennies is so painful! Haha. Not pennies! But, this hit home for me though because just recently a friend of mine had DHS called on her and her husband for leaving their child in the car. She was in the school parking lot and getting their other child off the bus. She was feet away. So, needless to say- I will not leave my child in the car like I had been when I drop my other one off at preschool. I instead bring him
inside the building and have the other germy preschoolers swarm us as I give my son a kiss and a hug and dodge out back to the car no more than 10 feet away as quickly as possible.

I have two really young boys who are not into video games YET, but I imagine they will be. I am avoiding it as long as possible, but I know I will have this battle some day. I will definitely use your idea of trading minutes. I just discussed this with my husband. At first I was thinking and hour outside to 15 minutes of gaming, but he things your ratio is best.

Thanks!!
